At the request of friends, who for some reason really trust my taste, I'm crafting lists of recommended places in any place I've stayed for a bit. Nothing fancy, most places are well-known already, but might be a good starting point if you're new in a place and have similar tastebuds!

(Updated November 2024.)

☕ Coffee

  • Bagel, coffee.culture (Kreuzberg) | Their bagels are good, but they also happen to make the best flat white with oatmilk.
  • Coffee Circle Café (Kreuzberg) | Also good quality coffee – during fall and winter, they have a delicious pumpkin spiced latte, if you're as basic as me.
  • Portier Coffee (Schöneberg) | Good coffee, good cookies!
  • Shakespeare & Sons - Fine Bagels (Friedrichshain) | Great coffee, great bagels, great selection of books, and if you're early enough to get a table, great spot to work from.

🍳 Brunch

  • Coffee Pony (Schöneberg) | This place feels like a second home to me. Reasonable prices, you can always find a seat, the food and coffee never disappoints. They have some desks you can work from too.
  • Das Gretel (Kreuzberg) | During weekends you need to book days in advance and it's not cheap. But the food is high quality, and coffee good.
  • Café bRICK (Neukölln) | Been going here since 2017, love everything on the menu.
  • Spindler (Kreuzberg) | Lovely food and vibe during the summer.

🍽 Restaurants

  • La Marinière (Berlin-Wilmersdorf) | Even if you're on the other side of the city, this cozy restaurant is worth making a trip for. Get the truffle mac and cheese.
  • Entrecôte | When you crave good meat.
  • Namsan Berlin (Kreuzberg) | Best bibimbap.
  • IRO Izakaya Vegan (Friedrichshain)| Get the rolls!

🍸 Bars

  • Weinverein am Berg (Kreuzberg) | Best cozy winebar. Order the mini pretzels with cream cheese and the flammkuchen with goat cheese and pickled zucchini.
  • Café Dachkammer (Friedrichshain) | One of my regular spots. Works for big groups, or just chillin' with a book and wine too.
  • Fuchsbau (Kreuzberg) | Chill, good cocktails.
  • Timber Doodle (Friedrichshain) | Small and quirky, worth the experience.

🍦 Sweets

  • Brammibal's Donuts (Friedrichshain) | A chain, but for a good reason.
  • Vanille & Marille (Kreuzberg) | Closed during winter, but the best ice cream during summer. Their blueberry cheesecake is nomnom.
  • Round & Edgy | Possibly the best cookies in the world.
  • Mr Nilsson GODIS (Kreuzberg)| I'm Swedish, this is a Swedish candy store, need I say more.

🤸🏻‍♀️ Workouts

  • Urban Gladiator (Kreuzberg) | The place to go for calisthenics and if you like strength training classes. Great teachers and community vibe.
  • Hi! Yoga (Kreuzberg) | Nice studio with barre and other classes.
  • Three Boons Yoga Berlin (Kreuzberg) | Jivamukti is my preferred yoga style.

🪩 Other spots & things to do

  • Vabali | A beautiful, and huge, spa. Book in advance, especially during busy times like holidays and weekends. They have good food and drinks too!
  • Olivin Wellness Lounge Sauna (Prenzlauer Berg) | Small and cozy, for when you just want a classic hot sauna, cold plunge and relax area. Perfect when you need to warm up during winter!
  • Teufelsberg | Cool spots with lots of interesting street art. Combine with walking around in the forest!
